Side Quest

(Not everying needs to be the main storyline)

Sidequest is an app i made for myself to give me somethign to reach for when bordom strikes that isnt social media. Something that might ingect whimsy instead of despair. Its easy to get caught up in whats important and going to make an impact that I thought it would be fun to have something that gave me little challenges, sidequests to the main mission if you will.

The app is very simple but designed to feel a little like an old school 'zine'. Theres not tracking, no socials and has a very informal tone that invites you to not take it too seriously and enjoy the journey. There are no streaks and you dont get anything for completling them except a silly little story.

Soff

(A simple app to help with anxiety)

Soff is a webapp I made for myself to help anxiety and rumination. Its easy to try and tackle anxious thouhgts with logical rtebuttals, but that usually not where the realm they exist in. Soff is an attempt to help users creat a tactile and emotional response to an event with a simple light touch reassurance. It does this by making each check a ritual that takes between half a second or one second and provides tactile, audio and visual feedback to help it stick in their memory. Checks can be configured to provide differnt feedbacks. Then the UI is desinged to be minimal and almost like an appliance, showing the minimal UI and trying to get out the way. This combination (i hope) will help to allow Soff to be a tool that breaks spirals and doesnt feed into them.

Soff provided an interesting design challenge because most webapps want their users to be engadged, active and addicted. Soff's desing language is supposed to only facilitate a function. That means that normal design decisions and function approaches has to be taken from a completley differnt angle from the best way to store the events down to something simple like how to display time. It was an effort to not reach for UX patterns of analytics, gamification and social engagement.

Mood map

(An app to figure out how your really feeling)

I built Mood Map to help people identify how they’re feeling with more nuance than just “good” or “bad” which are rarely specific enough.

Feeling lonely, overwhelmed, guilty, numb, betrayed, anxious, or disconnected can all feel similar from a distance, but they often need very different kinds of tools and reflections. Mood Map is helps you untangle that a little and better identify what your feeling.

When you have reached the emotion that matches it shows you a breakdown of where that sits, what it means and some gentle suggestions or prompts to reflect on.

Categorium

(Categories game ectended list)

Over christmas I played the game Scategories with some friends and we had a blast. The only issue is my copy is old and missing a bunch of lists leading to people sharing and fighting over easy access to the list we were using in a round.

I made a simple static Next.js app to host differnt lists and included a tool to select the letter were on (after it became a common occurence to hear "ohhhhh I thought we were supposed to do X").
